On conversion of the Polytechnic into a Technical University pursuant to the Technical Universities Act as amended, the Governing Council enacted the Statutes of the University which came into force on May 9, 2018. Statute 51 established the Directorate of Legal Affairs thus elevating it from a Department to a Directorate. The Legal Directorate is licensed by the General Legal Council and also has a mini-library as well as electronic legal database for reference and research purposes. The Legal Directorate currently has one permanent Legal Officer analogous to the rank of a Senior Assistant Registrar who is responsible for all the functions as stated in the statutes of the University.
To provide professional, timely and quality legal services to protect the legal interest of the University, improving Good Governance and ensuring Enforcement of law.
Ensuring rule of law in the University by providing legal advice and comments to help the leadership at any level make sound and legally informed decisions and representing the university at courts and other tribunals to protect its interests.
NB: The Legal Directorate does not provide Legal advice nor does it represent members of the University Community in connection with matters against the University’s interest, nor does it provide advice on personal matters.
A Technical University of global excellence in competency based and practice-oriented training, applied research and technology transfer.
